Children on the beach

I was commissioned by the same mother of whom I did the family beach scene to paint her children on the beach. Again, this is one of my favorite watercolors. I love the joy expressed in the children's faces, the way their hands are playing in the sand as they pose for the picture. It made me think of my own experiences of being at the beach as a kid and the pure joy and excitement of it all.

Again, I loved using the bright colors that I can get by not using as much water in the paint. I used the white of the paper with no watercolors applied to achieve the look of waves and foam. I used a wet on wet technique to achieve the reflection of the children in the wet sand. I applied water first with no paint then added the paint to the wet surface to create a watery look.
