Italy

The photo used for this watercolor was taken by my dear friend Eileen Riehman on her trip to Italy. Eileen asked me to paint this piece for her as a lasting reminder of the wonderful trip she shared with her brother. Personally, I have never been to Italy, but I have always dreamed of the day I would go there. Painting this image took me there in spirit and has heightened my anticipation for the day in which I will be there in body.

Technique: The art technique I used to achieve the look of the water in the canal is called "wet on wet." In this technique the area is saturated with water, then drops of wet paint are dropped onto the paper. The same technique is used to achieve the look of clouds in the upper left hand corner.
